Bilateral trade between Iran and Germany declined by nearly 20 percent in the first ten months of 2025.
The total volume of trade between Iran and Germany from January to October 2025 amounted to approximately EUR 995 million, representing a 20 percent decrease compared with the same period of the previous year. During this period, German exports to Iran fell by 25 percent to around EUR 795 million. In contrast, Iranian exports to Germany increased by 8 percent, reaching approximately EUR 201 million, partly offsetting the overall decline in bilateral trade.
Monthly data indicate that bilateral trade in October 2025 stood at around EUR 83 million, marking a 9 percent year-on-year decrease. In this month, German exports to Iran amounted to EUR 62 million, down 18 percent and the lowest level recorded since the Federal Statistical Office of Germany began publishing these figures. Meanwhile, Iranian exports to Germany rose sharply to EUR 21 million, reflecting a 39 percent increase compared with October of the previous year.
According to the SITC commodity classification, chemicals and related products remained the leading category in German exports to Iran, despite a cumulative decline of around 17 percent over the period under review. German exports of vehicles and industrial machinery to Iran also recorded a significant decrease of 35 percent. On the Iranian side, food products and live animals registered the strongest performance, with exports to Germany increasing by 19 percent and accounting for the largest share of Iran’s exports to the German market.
