15.05.2025Iran's Exports to Europe Hit Highest Level Since Late 2022
While overall trade between Iran and the European Union declined in the first quarter of 2025, Iran’s exports in March reached their highest level since November 2022.
According to Eurostat, total trade between Iran and the EU in Q1 2025 amounted to €1.035 billion; a 19% drop compared to the same period last year. EU exports to Iran were valued at €827 million, down 22%, while Iran’s exports to the EU reached €211 million, just 3% lower than the previous year.
In March alone, the two sides traded €336 million worth of goods; 22% less than in March 2024. Of that, €245 million came from EU exports to Iran (a sharp 31% drop), while Iran’s exports to Europe climbed to €91 million. That’s a 26% increase from the €72 million recorded in March 2024 and marks the highest monthly figure since November 2022, when exports stood at €91.7 million.
Breaking down the trade by category, the EU’s leading export to Iran in Q1 2025 was chemicals and related products, n.e.s. (SITC 5), with a total value of €249 million, a 6% drop from the previous year. Machinery and transport equipment (SITC 7), which held the top spot last year, fell by 34% and ranked second this year.
On the other hand, Iran’s top export to Europe during the same period was food and live animals (SITC 0), amounting to €98 million, a solid 15% increase compared to Q1 2024.
