At the Business Forum on the power and power plant industry, a group of executives and professionals from the sector came together to discuss key industry issues and opportunities. The meeting was held in the presence of Shahin Asghari, President of the German-Iranian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Ali Majedi, Strategic Advisor to the Chamber, as well as a number of executives and representatives from the power and power plant sector. Discussions focused on the challenges and solutions for developing the power industry, opportunities for cooperation and synergies among industry stakeholders, potential areas of cooperation between Iranian and German companies in the energy sector, and opportunities for technical development, investment and technology transfer.
At the beginning of the meeting, Asghari, President of the German-Iranian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, referred to the Chamber’s services and achievements and emphasized the importance of holding specialized Business Forums across different industries. He stated: “The German-Iranian Chamber seeks to identify the potential of each industry and create the necessary conditions for expanding cooperation. We are also preparing for a period of improved economic and commercial conditions so that the opportunities ahead can be utilized to the greatest possible extent.” Referring to Germany’s position in Iran’s trade relations, he described Germany as “Iran’s most important economic partner in Europe” and emphasized the importance of expanding industrial and technological cooperation between the two countries. Asghari also highlighted Germany’s capabilities in the power sector, stating: “Germany is one of Europe’s largest producers and consumers of electricity, while wind energy is also one of the country’s major sources of electricity generation. Therefore, there is considerable potential for exploring and developing technical and technological cooperation between Iranian and German companies in the energy sector.” He further pointed to several potential areas of cooperation, adding: “The Chamber can conduct the necessary assessments in areas such as power plant modernization, heat recovery and reuse, digital monitoring and control, the use of water and alternative fuels, as well as identifying and establishing contacts with German companies active in these fields, thereby facilitating cooperation between companies from the two countries.”
Majedi, Strategic Advisor to the Chamber, also referred to the current conditions of the wind energy industry and stated: “It should be noted that the wind energy industry is currently not in favorable conditions. In Germany, four factors—currency, technology, energy and commercial capacity—are of particular importance. Taking these factors into account, Iran can play an important role in the Middle East in developing cooperation and partnerships with German companies.”
During the meeting, one of the participants highlighted a number of existing challenges in the sector and stressed the need to establish specialized working groups in different areas, as well as to accurately identify the industry’s gaps and requirements. Referring to the Chamber’s capabilities, he also emphasized its role as a bridge between Iranian and German companies and identified banking issues and training-related challenges as other key concerns. In response to the issues raised, Asghari referred to the Chamber’s range of services and stated: “The Chamber can provide business and legal consulting services to economic stakeholders, as well as support in matters related to BAFA. In the field of training, the Chamber also has the capacity to provide the educational services and training courses required by professionals in this industry.”
In another part of the meeting, another participant emphasized the need to make the Chamber’s arbitration board more active and to increase awareness of its services and capabilities. The organization of training courses aimed at transferring up-to-date technical knowledge and sharing the experiences of the two countries was also highlighted as an area for further consideration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Asghari, President of the German-Iranian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, emphasized the importance of continuing such meetings, stating: “The Chamber is seeking to hold specialized meetings with stakeholders from different industries on a regular basis. This will enable us to gain a more precise understanding of the challenges and requirements of each sector, provide effective support and services, and follow up on the outcomes of these meetings.”
Representatives of major electricity producers, including MAPNA Group, Damavand Power Generation Company, Mahtab Gostaresh Energy, Mega Tavan, and several other major power generation companies, attended the meeting.
