SUMMARY:The EU new Entry/Exit System without manually stamping passports
DESCRIPTION:The EU new Entry/Exit System without manually stamping passpor
ts\nWhen the EES becomes operational in November\, non-EU travellers ente
ring the Schengen Area will have to go through new scanners at EU borders
.\nAccording to Euronews\, the Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new border co
ntrol policy set to be implemented by the European Union in November 2024
. The EES will replace the current practice of manually stamping passport
s with a fully automated electronic system that records the entry and exi
t of non-EU travelers.Travellers will need to scan their passports or oth
er travel document at a self-service kiosk each time they cross an EU ext
ernal border. The system will register the traveller’s name\, biometric
data\, and the date and place of entry and exit. Facial scans and finger
print data will be taken every three years and are valid for multiple tri
ps within that period. The EES is being introduced to bolster border secur
ity and identify travellers who overstay their permitted time in the Sche
ngen Area (90 days within a 180-day period). The main objectives of the E
ES are to improve border security\, prevent irregular migration\, and det
ect overstays more effectively. It will not apply to legal EU citizens or
residents or those with long-stay visas.
